An original 'Camp Coffee' lable the Paterson Company of Glasgow , was catapulted to fame with the worlds first instant coffee in 1876 : Camp Coffee ( an essence of coffee beans , chicory and sugar poured from a distinctive bottle) the origin of Camp Coffee is believed to have come from  a request from the Gordon Highlanders , to Campbell Paterson for a coffee drink that could be used easily by the Army on field campaigns in India , the regular process of grinding and brewing coffee beans was too complacated and time consuming for a military field kitchen , the creation of a liquid Camp Coffee provided a simpler method

Originally the picture depicted the sikh as carrying a tray of coffee , an intermediate version , with the Sikh standing but the tray missing , it is widely believed that this was changed to avoid the imperialst connotations of the Sikh as a servent , the new lable is a drawing of a Gordon Highlander soldier ans a Sikh soldier sitting down together outside a tent , from which flies a flag carrying the drinks slogan "Ready Aye Ready" 

Coffees plague starts with yello spots and what look like burn marks , they formm on the leaves of the coffee plant , causing the foilage to wither until the tree resembels a skeleton , it stops bean producing cherries from growing , this is coffee rust or roya , caused by the hemileia vastatrix fungus : for two years it has been ravaging Central America , and the Caribbean , Arabica plants , used for espresso and filter coffee , are particulary vulnerable , Arabica accounts for almost all production in the worst affected countries of Costa Rica , Dominican Republic , El Salvador , Guatemala , Honduras , Jamaica , Nicaragua , and Panama

The current epidemic is the worst seen since the fungus appeared in Central America in 1976 , says the international Coffee Organisation , more than half of the regions coffee producing areas are affected , in 2013 alone production fell 20%

The U.S. government worries that farmers could swap coffee for drug producing crops , it has announced a 5 million dollar project for researchers at Texas A & M University to look at ways of eradicating the fungus , but that will not help in the short term , the only real answer is to re plant with fungus resistant varieties as Colombia has done , says Mauricio Galindo , head of operations at the ICO

The dry season which usually kills off the fungus , was extremely wet in 2011/2012 , so coffee rust spread says Will Corby of bean importer Mercanta , the other factor is altitude , plants over 1,000 meters , used to be safe but the fungus has mutated in the past two years it is now aggerssive above this level

The price of coffee from countries like Guatemala , will rise this won't affect instant coffee , made from non Arabica beans , even the price of a latte at a coffee shop should not rise noticeably , only about 8% of the cost is down to the beans but Central American ground or bean coffee sold by shops and supermarkets  will go up , says Galindo

Buying a cup of coffee in a cafe can be a real treat , but what would you do if you couldn't afford one ? would you go without ? , you could ask for a suspended coffee instead

In European Cafe's a trend has started , in many shops , the homeless , skint (broke) , or just if you've not quite got the price of a cup , you can ask in many cafes for a suspended coffee , Americain coffee establishments have a simular thing , called Paying It Forward

It works when someone who has bought their cup of coffee pays the barrista not just for their cup but he or she will pay for a second cup , a Suspended Cup , or Paying It Forward as it is called in america, there it works the same way , a customer will tell the barrista "this is for the next person coming in whose short of change" or they willl just tell him as he hand him double the price of his cup "I'm Paying It Forward" and the barrista will know what is meant , however if you would like to do this , remember to tell your barrista at the time you are paying , otherwise they may believe that you have just given them a very nice tip

U.S. coffee chain Starbuck's will pay college fees for U.S. workers  to complete bachelor's degree online in a tie up with Arizona State University

U.S. employees of the firm who work at least 20 hours a week are eligble for the Starbuck's college achievement plan

Starbuck's staff who are successfully enrolled will recieve partial tuition for the first two years , and full tuition for their final two years

The annual fee for online courses at the University can exceed 10,000 $ , after they've completed their bachelor's degree , the employees are not obligated to return to employment with Starbuck's

Starbuck's staff looking to attend college online at Arizona State University (ASU) can choose from about 40 programs , including ; engineering , education and retail management

In a statement posted on it's website  the University said the initiative was designed to support the nearly 50% of college students in the U.S. today who fail to complete their degrees due to mounting debt , a tenuos work life balance and a lack of support

In that same statement , Howard Schultz , Chairman and President at Starbuck's  said " There's no doubt , the inequality within the country has created a situation where many americans are being left behind , the question for all of us is , should we accept that , or should we try and do something about it?"

In addition to the financial aid , students who are admitted  under the college plan will also have a dedicated enrolment coach , financial aid counsellor and academic advisor to support them through graduation

Michael M Crow , President of the Arizona State University , said that Starbuck's was established a new precedent for thee responsibility and role of a public company that leads through the lens of humanity  and supports its partner's life goals with access to education"

The collaboration comes one week after a White House report showed student debt loan balance in the U.S. had jumped to 1.1 tr early this year , when compared to 250 bn in 2003
