The Order Of The Bath
Today the Queen and Prince of Wales will attend a service for the Order of the Bath at Westminster Abbey , the order is mainly awarded to Officers of the Armed Forces and the title is taken from the ritual washing which formed part of a Knight's preparations for the conferment of Knighthood
The Order now consists of The Sovereign (The Queen) , The Grand Master ( The Prince of Wales) and three classes of members : the statutes provide for 120 Knights and Dames Grand Cross (GCB) 295 Knights and Dames Commander ( KCB & DCB) andd 1,455 Companions (CB)
The title of the Order is late Medieval in origin , it arose from the ritual washing ( inspired by the washing of baptisim) , a symbol of spiritual purification , which formed part of a Knight's preparation for the Conferment of Knighthood
