Translation Of Terms
Font = The name given to name of style or how Letter is formed
Italic , Script , Cursive , Bold , Ornamental = Font Styles
Copperplate or English round hand = A style of Calligraphy done using a pointed nib rather than a flat nib
Inkwell = A container made of glass or metal , Silver or Brass with lid , sometimes without , holds liquid Ink
Nibs = either Pointed or Flat bits of metal , in diffrent shapes and sizes , fit into a penholder, usuall made of Brass , sometimes Silver, the part of Pen which touches the paper
Penholder = these were usually made out of metal or wooden , there is one version which is mainly wooden , with the top bit where nib fits in made of cork in which the nib might be placed
Quill = A large , sometimes ornate feather from a birf , the tip has been cut and carved into nib, thee feather is then used as pen , by dipping carved tip into your inkwell
Ornamental Pensmanship = a very ornate ( fancy , intricate ) drawing made by a Calligrapher
Monogram = A single letter , usually ornate or styilized which stands apart from a whole word , normally the first letter of a word , would sometimes have a ornate border around the solitary letter , it can also be used as in Embroidery or Needlepoint , as a decoration on ones hankerchief
Blotter = A curved bit of wood , with a strip of blotter paper afixed to it , used to blot up acess ink
