Cement For China And Glass

Ingredeints -- 1 oz. of gum mastic , 1 oz of isinglass , 1/4 oz. of gum ammoniac , spirits of wine , rum

Mode -- dissolve the gum mastic in highly rectified spirits of wine ; soften the isinglass in warm water and afterwards dissolve it in rum til  it forms a thick jelly , mix the two together , the isinglass and the gum mastic add the gum ammoniac finely powdered and put it in an earthen pipkin , which set in a warm place til the ingredients of the cement become thoroughly incorporated together , then pour into a bottle and cork it firmly

To use it dissolve a small piece in a silver teaspoon over a lighted candle ; warm the glass or china to be joined touch  the edges with the cement , put them accuratley together and hold them in place til the cement adhering to the edge of the join and set aside , without again touching it , what has been joined for 12 hours , if neatly and exactly joined , the china or glass should not show that it has been mended , and will be as strongas when it was unbroken
